I’m participating in my first ever online comic con! It’s called the Metaverse & it’s run by ReedPop (who runs NYCC, C2E2, & more). I’ve heard of some online comic cons popping up earlier in the pandemic, but was too busy with anxiety to pay attention. But now I’m experiencing what they’re about and am happy to participate! It goes from Aug 13-16, so I don’t know if it means the website will go down after that?
Probably the best thing about online comic cons is NO LINES! No crowding! No crazy overpriced unhealthy food! Like, if I’m going to eat unhealthy food, it better be cheap.
The Metaverse seems like a curation of cool comics & entertainment stuff from all over the internet. There is a schedule of panels on YouTube, a special Discord just for this convention, and links to vendors & artists.
Some of the panels seem pretty cool, and I’ve often wanted to see some NYCC panels later on YouTube but they have a “no recording” policy. Sometimes there is just too many cool things going on at the same time and this way you can watch the panels any time. The best one I think is Learn Japanese the Anime Way! I’m kind of surprised I never seen this type of panel before… it seems so obvious. I did it the hard core way and took Japanese 101 in college!… and forgot 99% of it.
YouTube is free but The Metaverse also has some ticketed experiences, like virtual Meet & Greets and some Sci-Fi Writing workshops
