The Daily Misfortune 228
This is certainly the case whenever I change purses!
Yesterday my cartooning workshop for Make It On Myrtle went well. Had a good turn out in the morning, and they asked me to do the second session in the afternoon as well. But it was SO freaking HOT! At least I didn't get sunburned though, because there were tents. Overall, a good experience. It's always great to see kids (and adults!) learning and being creative in their own unique ways while having fun too :) If you know of a need for a comics teacher anywhere, let me know.

Happy 4th of July!
Make It On Myrtle: Cartooning Workshop
I'm teaching a cartooning workshop THIS SUNDAY JULY 7th at 11AM! (Goes until 1pm). You'll learn the basics of cartooning, from creating your own unique character from basic shapes, to putting that character in your own comic strip! Go to www.myrtleavenue.org for more info to register, or just drop by. It's $10 per participant.
It's fine in small amounts though, like any other sweets. Yep, taken right from the label.

Got this idea from a guy I met at Wizard World this past weekend. This is a joke his friends used to play on him :) Wizard was ok. Not as great as I'd hoped, for it being a 3-day con. I was expecting it to be similar to NYCC, because the table cost almost as much, but there just wasn't as much traffic flow. Unfortunately many artists didn't do well and won't return next year. I was warned about this con, but I wanted to see for myself. At least I didn't lose money though.
Wizard World TODAY!
It's today! Crazy! Please stop by my table B4 in Artist's Alley if you can :) Gonna be one heck of a ride this weekend!
Wizard World TOMORROW!
Super excited that Wizard World NYC Experience starts tomorrow! It's going to be intense. But if I can handle NYCC, I can handle this :) Get a day pass for Fri, Sat, or Sun and see comic/tv stars, meet artists/creators/writers on the show floor and artists alley, see cool costumes, and most of all, get awesome new comics!
Cool Stuff at Wizard World!
Some reasons why you should check out Wizard World NYC: As shown above, Stan Lee, Patrick Stewart, and Norman Reedus (from The Walking Dead) will be there! There's some wrestling guy in the picture too. I guess he's cool enough to be there. Wil Wheaton will be there too (he's made appearances on The Big Bang Theory :)
Wiz has some pretty cool programming going on too. Some that I think worth going to would be: INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING VS BIG HOUSE PUBLISHING, HIP-HOP & COMICS: CULTURES COMBINING, and MASTERING THE UNIVERSE WITH TOM COOK (he was an animator on She-Ra and He-Man!).
SHOW HOURS Friday, June 28, 2013 - 4pm - 9pm Saturday, June 29, 2013 - 10am - 7pm Sunday, June 30, 2013 - 10am - 5pm
LOCATION: Basketball City (Pier 36) 299 South St #36 New York, NY 10002
Take the F train to the East Broadway stop and walk towards the water. It's right on a Pier, so you can't miss it :P If you're driving, it's right off the FDR Drive.
Tickets here!
And I'll be in Artist's Alley table B4!
Hope to see you there! This should be an exciting show. There are supposed to be thunderstorms this weekend, but don't let that deter you. It's inside, and even some programming they have outside will still happen "rain or shine."
Accepted to Boston Comic Con!
I got accepted to the Boston Comic Con! They had to change the date because it was unfortunately supposed to be the weekend after the Boston Marathon bombing. Now it's in a different, bigger location. It was a really good decision for them to change the date (unlike when King Con still happened the weekend after Hurricane Sandy and hardly anyone showed up).
Many thanks to my friends in Boston who are letting me stay with them :) It's because I have good friends all over that I'm able to do conventions farther away :) At this point, it's not worth it for me to pay for a hotel or even hostel. Maybe some day.
And as always, I'll be at Carmine St. Comics today working away on stuff. Tuesdays are my most productive day :) It's so great to have a mini studio one day a week. I'd like to have a real studio some day that I can use every day :)
Don't worry, mom & dad - this is a made up misfortune! (Sometimes my parents worry when I post dangerous misfortunes).
Grove Alley Nite Market
I designed this flyer and logo for the Grove Alley Nite Market, happening this Friday! NOTE: I will NOT be at Grove Alley because I'm in the Wizard World convention. But you can go to both if you like because Wizard is Saturday and Sunday as well. Also of note is that the same people that put on the Gowanus Nite Market are involved with Grove Alley, so if you liked GNM, be sure to check this one out! www.downtownbrooklyn.com for more info.
Wizard World NYC NEXT WEEK!
Wizard World NYC is NEXT WEEK! Super excited! I'll post more info next week as the date gets closer (so it's fresh in your minds :) Hope to see you there June 28-30th!
*YOLO is short for "You Only Live Once."

What? You've never heard of The Carlton Dance before? <---- Now, that's a link you CAN click on! I think I finally managed to get the spam links off of my Feedburner mailing list (I hope).
The Daily Crazy 214
Yep, this Daily Misfortune happened to a friend of mine :)
I'm returning to Carmine St. comics today! Got a lot of stuff to work on, so I'll be there pretty much all day. See you there!
The Daily Sunburn 213
Eternal Con was a success! Except that I got turned around on the Long Island bus system and got there a half hour after show hours started. But I've traveled enough to remain calm and knew I'd get there eventually, and figured not many people would be there right in the morning. Wrong! There were so many people! I give credit to the people who organized this convention - they had a phenomenal turnout for it being the first show of its kind. I did well and was sketching a lot. I want to post pics, but I have a feeling I'm getting too busy with other work nowadays to spend so much time on recapping.
Oh yes, and the Aviation Museum seemed cool, even though I only saw like a corner of it. But the skylight windows were burning up me and my table. Luckily, I had a mini bottle of sunblock with me (or I'd get burned within 20 minutes). I was saved that day, but not on the next for Make It On Myrtle, where got burned while outside all day talking to people about the work shops. It was bound to happen eventually.
Make It On Myrtle
I designed this flyer and banner (below) for an awesome outdoor summer workshop: Make it on Myrtle! Workshops range from fixing your bike to brewing your own beer to making comics! My teaching session on comics will be July 7th from 2 to 4pm.
We hung the banners today at the location in Brooklyn. Found out there was random construction in the lot... hope it doesn't get in the way of the workshops. Anyway, classes are 2 hours each from 11am to 1pm, then from 2pm to 4pm. Register for a spot at www.myrtleavenue.org!
If you're in the Long Island area this Saturday June 15th, check out Eternal Con! I'll be there all day. Cheers!
Eternal Con THIS SATURDAY!
This Saturday June 15th I'm in a new comic convention in Long Island NY: Eternal Con! The beautiful space of the Cradle of Aviation Museum will host this event with 2 floors of Pop Culture Madness! In addition to the huge vendor space they'll have raffles, giveaways, costumes, special guests, a car show in the parking lot, diorama contests, movie screening, full access to the Cradle of Aviation Museum (with paid admission) and much more! I kind of want to check out the museum, because I love outer space and stuff, but I'll be in Artist's Alley all day.
Cradle of Aviation Museum Charles Lindbergh Blvd. Garden City, NY 11530
You can get there by LIRR from Manhattan or Brooklyn for public transit, or by car if you have access.
Show hours are 10am - 6pm. Admission is $14 adults and $12 for kids under 12. Free parking! Hope to see you there, and please spread the word!
I LOVE double rainbows! I've seen some before and yes, they are very intense. I learned about how rainbows occur in a "Naked Eye Astronomy" class in college (stuff you can see without a telescope), but you can also learn more here.
